Clubs and Organizations

James L. Collins Catholic School is proud to be represented by our students in a number of activities not required by the school curriculum. We offer many opportunities for students to be involved in extra-curricular activities.

Discovery 4H

JLCCS 4-H is open to all students in Grades 3-8.  The club participates in community service by visiting nursing homes during December and giving out candy, gifts, or crafts. Students also learn about sewing, cooking, consumer decision making, and photography.  Many of the students compete at the county livestock show (Navarro County Youth Expo) by showing animals, arts and crafts, or food entries in March.  Around 10-20 students participate each year.

Art Club

The Art Club is an after school activity that provides materials, instruction and support for those students who are seeking a creative outlet in addition to their academic schedule. Our students have created beautiful pieces of art.  Members of our Art Club have competed in various art competitions.

Blue Knights Boys' Club

The Blue Knights Catholic Club is a boys’ club aimed at teaching the truths of the Catholic faith to boys through Scripture, saints’ biographies, games, crafts and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The club guides include lessons in the Faith, activities, saints’ biographies, suggested talks, craft ideas and game suggestions.

Cheer Club

Our program is proud to be part of JLCCS Athletics. Our student-athletes in the Cheer and Mascot programs work hard to accomplish their goal of leading our amazing student body at games and pep rallies. The JLCCS Cheerleaders perform at many events during the year including volleyball games, pep rallies, and more!

Chess Club

JLCCS Chess Club meets once a week on Thursday afternoons from 3:45 - 4:30 in the teachers' classrooms. Each meeting begins with instruction connected to one of many areas of chess match. For example, we give instructions on forks or how to create Double Check. After instruction, students play chess. Every student records their wins, loses, and draws.  During holiday seasons, we have Holiday Chess Tournaments.

Garden Club

Our garden club is dedicated to cultivating our students as they thrive in our safe, caring & stimulating environment. These students have an area on campus that they maintain, which includes a garden where they grow herbs and vegetables.

Military History Club

Our Military History Club focuses on advancing the study of military history. Club members learn about the various branches of service in the US, military campaigns and engagements, and the variety of jobs within the military. They partner with our local CAF Coyote Squadron, host veterans to their meetings regularly, and volunteer with military veteran groups.

Guitar Club

The Guitar Club is new to JLCCS.  Students in 2nd grade through 8th grade are eligible to join the club and learn how to play the guitar.  The club performed in the school's Christmas program this past year.  The club meets weekly.

Harry Potter Club

Our Harry Potter Club members come together monthly to enjoy fellowship and participate in Harry Potter type activities, including playing quidditch, mixing potions to learn about chemical reactions, and more.

Little Flowers Girls' Club

The Little Flower Girls' Club is open to girls from Kindergarten through 6th grade and they do not have to be Catholic. We meet once a month and each month we focus on a virtue and a Saint that exuded that virtue. Students earn badges to put on a blue sash and when they earn all the badges in the 'wreath' it makes a complete flower.

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students.  More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship.  Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Student Council

Student Council is a group of student leaders who work with an adult supervisor to collaborate with others to impact their school community, which impacts their city or town, which impacts our state, which impacts our country, which changes the world. It is a service organization that upholds the traditions and philosophy of the school in areas of school spirit, environment, religious affairs and safety.  The council is composed of officers elected in the fall by the students in 8th grade.  In addition, each homeroom of students in grades 5-8 elects two representatives from their respective homerooms.

Swifties

This club focuses on teaching members how to build positive relationships. At their monthly meeting, they discuss topics like bullying, positive self image, and being brave while listening to songs by Taylor Swift.

Rules & Expectations for Extracurricular Activities:

  • All students are required to obey the school’s code of conduct in all extracurricular activities.

  • Students must remain with the activity sponsor at all times.

  • Students must follow the guidelines set forth by their sponsor.

  • Parents must supervise non-participating family members’ at extracurricular activities and practices.

  • Parents are asked to drop off participants in extracurricular activities no more than 5 minutes before the scheduled starting time of the activity or practice, and to pick up participants promptly afterwards.
