SmartLab
STEM
James L. Collins Catholic School is thrilled to have its very own SmartLab® Innovation Center on our campus. SmartLab® is a fully integrated learning environment where everything from the furniture and technology focuses on the STEM curriculum. The four core elements of STEM include SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, and MATH, and are used together to support hands-on, minds-on learning as well as help prepare our students for college and careers in their future. It’s a place where personalized learning and intrinsic motivation engage students of all ages, interests, and abilities.
SmartLab® programs engage learners as they apply technology to projects based on their own interests and build academic connections to develop 21st-century skills. Whether students are exploring robotics, coding, websites, video broadcasts, circuitry, or structures, they’re developing critical-thinking skills, solving problems and collaborating with their peers. The SmartLab fosters learning valuable project and time management skills, allows the students to reflect, communicate, and present not only their projects…but their learning. They’re building skills, knowledge, and interests that will be critical for college and career success in their future.
Students in 4th through 8th grade will explore STEM through applied technology and project-based learning in our SmartLab® throughout the school year
