This has been a busy summer up at JLCCS! Between summer camps, seeking new employees who will be a good fit with our school, and construction projects, there hasn’t been much rest. But, thanks be to God and to all our prayer warriors, we have almost all our needed faculty and staff hired. Here is who we have so far:

  • Miriam Alvarado - Miriam served the school as our Religion teacher for years and, having just completed her teaching degree under Mrs. Gibbs’ tutelage and previously working with 3 and 4 year olds at Head Start, is excited to have the opportunity to be the Kindergarten homeroom teacher. She will also teach Religion to 1st grade.
  • Karla Guzman will return on a part-time basis to teach Religion to 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Having previously served the parish as an RCIA instructor, Karla is looking forward to this opportunity.
  • Karin Hall is joining us as our first grade teacher. She was elected by her peers to receive the Rising Star award at Fannin Elementary last year and is looking forward to working closely with students to help them become strong readers.
  • Cindy McCary will teach Music and plans to apply her past knowledge with performance choirs to the students at JLCCS. We are truly blessed to have a teacher with so much experience and love of teaching!
  • Michael Sibley, a parishioner at St. John’s in Ennis, will serve as our P.E. teacher and Athletic Director. He retired from Ennis ISD as a Special Education teacher, has taught P.E. even at the collegiate level, and is a certified Athletic Director. We eagerly await the new athletic opportunities he will present to our students even as young as second grade!
  • Erika Castaneda has joined us from the parish office. Despite the significant learning curve she faces, she is tackling every challenge with diligence and attention to detail. We are pleased to have a bilingual Business Manager, too!.
  • Yvette Ortiz will be our new Assistant Cafeteria Manager. She has years of experience in Ennis ISD and is looking forward to getting to know our students.

Please continue to pray for us to fill all our positions as successfully as we have so far. God has been answering our prayers - it is the only plausible explanation for our ability to fill so many positions with such great people during the greatest teacher shortage this century has seen.

The school continues to be closed for holidays and renovations through July 15th. I look forward to you seeing the newly refurbished classrooms at Meet the Teacher on August 8th at 530pm!
